Diagnosed with breast cancer that is removable by a lumpectomy
(up to 3.5cm in size)

Younger than 45 years

Invasive lobular cancer

After neoadjuvant chemotherapy
2. Whole breast radiotherapy

Long term efficacy and toxicity proven - no reduction in deaths
  • EBRT daily over 5 to 6 weeks - to the whole breast radiotherapy
  • EBRT daily over 3 to 4 weeks - to the whole breast
  • ​
Short term efficacy shown but more toxic
  • 5 -day (7 to 13 days) whole breast radiotherapy (the so called fast forward regimen)​
*A larger tumour is more likely to need treatment with a mastectomy
