Diagnosed with breast cancer that is removable by a lumpectomy
(up to 3.5cm in size)

Younger than 45 years

Invasive lobular cancer

Other types of radiotherapy
After neoadjuvant chemotherapy
1. TARGIT-B trial:
A badged randomised clinical trial funded by Department of Health, UK, testing targeted radiation during lumpectomy plus part post-opearatively, for superior local control and survival
2. Whole breast radiotherapy

Long term efficacy and toxicity proven - no reduction in deaths
  • EBRT daily over 5 to 6 weeks - to the whole breast radiotherapy
  • EBRT daily over 3 to 4 weeks - to the whole breast
  • ​
Short term efficacy shown but more toxic
  • 5 -day (7 to 13 days) whole breast radiotherapy (the so called fast forward regimen)​
